The Liebherr family business was started during 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The business first gained fame from its mobile tower crane which was noted for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this invention that the foundation of the company flourished under. Nowadays, Liebherr has grown to become among the leading manufacturers within the world of construction equipment. The company has also earned the reputation of being the accredited provider of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in various fields. The company has now become a "Group" working in each and every continent with over 35,000 employees and over 130 companies across the world.
To be able to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. This specific set up allows the business the ability to stay in tune with worldwide competition and be flexible to market signals. Liebherr has instituted the divisional control companies to be able to handle the management operations of production and sales for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently encompasses ten different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are situated within Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by the Liebherr family members. Now, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr. Ever since 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by family members in the 3rd generation such as: Stefanie Wohlfarth, Patricia Ruf, Sophie Albrecht and Jan Liebherr. These members of the family have been working together to be able to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects across the world.
Hans Liebherr began to build his business during 1949, within a tiny town known as Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports among Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations.
