Forklift Tires
There are two kinds of tires that can be used on forklifts: standard and press on. Normally, press on tires are used on electric forklifts and those models used indoors like warehouses. The press on tires could be utilized also in light industrial application as well.
Surfaces which are uneven or rough require tougher tires and more traction. Hence, standard tires are usually utilized. However, they are mostly used on forklifts that operate in outdoor settings.
There are many different kinds of forklift tires just as there are a lot of different kinds of forklifts. The kinds of tires that are most commonly used are polyurethane, pneumatic and solid. The kind of tires are dictated by what and where the forklift is used for. It is really vital to obtain the right tires for the task and making sure that the proper pick will have a big impact on both safety and performance.
For outdoor forklifts which have to operate in an all-terrain atmosphere such as on a construction site, the best option will be pneumatic tires. These are made of durable rubber and then filled with air, like a truck or tractor tire. Pneumatic tires create an air cushion between the terrain and the forklift itself. This particular design significantly lessens the wear and tear on the equipment and creates a very comfortable ride for the operator. The tire's thick, deep treads provide the necessary traction needed for use on uneven and rough surfaces.
Solid tires are best suited for both light industrial indoor and outdoor applications. They are fabricated out of constructed solid, tough rubber. This helps them to stay safer from blowouts, popping like pneumatic tires or damage because of puncture wounds. Because these tires are not filled with air, they can not provide the cushion effect. This fact makes them not suitable for use on rough terrain. Some solid tires are constructed with holes in the sidewalls to provide a rather softer ride. The only problem is that this type of construction makes the load carrying capacity of the forklift less.
The polyurethane forklift tires would normally outlast both of the rubber tire designs but are intended for indoor warehouse applications only. The load capacity of polyurethane is much higher compared to a rubber tire. These tires work great with well with electric forklifts due to the added weight of the machine's batteries. Due to the less rolling resistance of the tires, one more benefit of this particular type of tire is the extended battery life.
