There are two standard types of forklifts, those which run on gas and models which run on electricity:
Internal Combustion Lift trucks: The IC forklift will run on fuels such as liquid propane, gas, compressed natural gas or CNG or diesel. Gas powered models are best suited for outdoor applications as they release pollutants and gases which are harmful to workers and pedestrians. Models that run on gasoline are also suitable for application in the rain and in bad climate. These models can lift weights about 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the fuel expenses and maintenance, the gas powered models are a lot more costly to use than units that run on electricity, however, they cost much less up front than the electric units. The liquid propane units are the best option to be used in indoor applications.
Electric Lift Trucks: Electric lift trucks take batteries that require regular charging. Because these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machines. They are the right alternative for indoor use and warehouses. As well, electric lift trucks do not require any fuel storage units and they are a lot quieter to run than other models. Among the downsides of the electric models is that they could not lift cargo over 15,000 pounds and hence, have a slower acceleration compared to the units which utilize gasoline.
The lift truck is particularly designed to transport objects and supplies easily and quickly. Accidents do happen frequently like is the case with most types of machinery. There are specific safety regulations that need to be followed in order to keep everyone safe. The most important problem is recruiting a qualified operator, who will be able to show you a valid forklift license.
There are many different types of forklifts offered on the market. Choosing which one is right for your specific requirements will be based on the types of loads that you need to transport, what type of environment your equipment will have to operate in, for example, outdoors or indoors or both. Once you understand your particular needs, it would be easy to match up to the best kind of lift truck. When you understand your requirements precisely you would be able to make the best decision.
One more great way to get first hand experience on the various lift truck models is the try leasing your lift truck. This would also allow you to see all the possible choices available to you. This is a cheaper way to know if the equipment you have chosen could keep up with you on the job site.
